Modern Canadian Society Test - Next Class!

Friday, May 2nd is our test on Canadian society and economy from 1945-2000.  Please ensure that you are ready for it, as it's the last major assessment of the history section.  If you miss the test, you will have to write it on the re-test date, and have your parents communicate with me personally to explain your absence.

LAST DAY'S CLASS:

1.  We reviewed the handout on Aboriginal Issues and Protest -- a very important assignment!  Please ensure that you have completed the homework and gotten the correct answers.

• Key Topics in Aboriginal Issues section include:  Indian Act, Banning of Potlatch, Mandatory Residential Schools, White Paper of 1969, Oka Crisis, Meech Lake Accord, Nisga'a Treaty and creation of Nunavut.  
• Key Idea is ways in which government has attempted to assimilate Aboriginal people into Canadian society. 

Interesting video to watch to help you study is 8th Fire - Aboriginal in the City - CBC documentary  -- Watch first 6.5 minutes and then 11-15 minutes. 

2.  We also reviewed the Practice Questions at the back of the booklet including -- key Prime Ministers, and  Pierre Trudeau.   

3.  TEST PARAGRAPH QUESTION:  To what extent did Pierre Trudeau achieve his goal of a 'just society'?   Give a minimum of 3 specific examples to explain your point, and show your knowledge of what Pierre Trudeau managed/did not manage to achieve. 

4. You will also be asked to explain 2 different protest movements of the 1960s/70s -- women, LGBTQ+, Environment, Youthquake.  You will need to describe different events that took place as part of each protest movement.  Ex.  creation of Greenpeace, etc.    The Pierre Trudeau homework assignment below will help you prepare for that question. 

5. French Canadian Issues will also be an important one to review ~~ here were the notes reviewed with Ms. Tapia, as well as the powerpoint on Separatism

6.  We also watched a video on Technological Revolution of 21st century -- here's the link to "Did you Know ~"
