WWI: From a European conflict to Global Warfare
Understanding the origins of the "Great War" is extremely important because it gives us insight into the dynamics of the European powers at the turn of the century, and is an excellent way to analyse the results of nationalism, imperialism, alliance systems and militarism in detail.

- How a regional conflict over control of the Balkans evolved into a global conflict
- How Canadians were involved, and affected by WWI
- How conscription became a major issue that divided Canadians, and increased tension between French and English Canadians
- How Canada gained new influence in global affairs, and solidified its national identity
- How the end of the war led to the creation of diplomatic relations between countries (League of Nations), and contributed to significant levels of German resentment.
