Geography: My Favourite Unit at Last!

Today we began our last unit of the year ~ Geography - chapter 11, 12, and 13 from Counterpoints.  We began with a basic overview of Geography and how it is defined, and discussed the concept of perspective.

1. We drew our perspective of "the world"
2. We discussed what the world would be like if it was divided in proportion of 100 people using statistics from Miniature Earth  -- great website!  Here is the link to the Youtube Video

We then began our discussion of "What Makes a Good Life?" -- what makes us happy?
3. We discussed ways in which we measure happiness and standards of living using this powerpoint.
3. And then began our first topic of study ~ DEMOGRAPHY

Here is the handout with last day's notes and questions.  We began the unit by working through the questions in partners, and using predictive skills to decode the different age pyramids and concepts.  We will review the notes together in class tomorrow.

Homework was the Baby-O-Matic Questionnaire, as well as a drawing of your own personal 'age pyramid' using your creative writing skills.

You will have an article review due on Monday concerning an issue relating to Population.  Some suggestions for article reviews will be posted tomorrow.
