Please complete the following questions to help you prepare for your research assignment on a topic about World War II.

1. Head to BBC's World History Site     this is an excellent resource
  • Expand "World War II - key events" --and open the timeline
    • Question 1 - In what year is Pearl Harbour, and the US entrance into the war?  
    • Question 2 - Who reaches Berlin first to force Hitler to surrender? 
    • Question 3 - How does Hitler eventually die? 
  • Head to D-Day Simulation and watch the animation
    • Question 6 - In what year does D-Day take place? 
    • Question 7 - Describe the types of military 'vehicles'/transport used in this attack (hint: air, water...)
    • Question 8 - What is the name of the Canadian beach?   
  • Click on Europe and Africa; Find the picture that says the "Battle of Britain"; then, select "Battle of Britain' photograph
    • Question 9 - who is the Prime Minister of Britain during the Battle of Britain? 
    • Question 10 - how many nights straight was the city of London bombed during the 'blitz'? 
    •  Question 11 - was Great Britain forced to surrender as a result of the Battle of Britain?
  • 'zoom out' and then select 'D-Day' and read the text description
    • Question 12 - What was the date and code name of D-Day? 
    • Question 13 - in which French city did this battle take place? 
  • head back to main page and select 'leningrad siege'
    • Question 14 - how long did the siege last? 
    • Question 15 - how many civilians died during the siege?  
  • zoom out and then play around in some of the other areas of the world, you might want to find out what the Manhatten Project was, or more about kamikaze pilots in Asia.  Once you are finished exploring, head to next website. 
2.  Last, check out BBC History's Genocide Page expand the section, and click on 'Interactive Map of 'Auschwitz'  
  • Question 16 - What were the Einzatsgruppen?
  • Question 17 - Enter into the 'Auschwitz' camp.  What happened in the crematorium? 
  • Question 18 -  What happened in the 'Kanada' room?

Now it's time to choose a topic for your research project.  You may work in groups of 2-5 people - these should be formal, well-researched presentations that involve everyone.  You will present at the end of January (around the 20th).
