Unit Two: The Struggle For Human Rights

 Today we began our second unit: The Struggle for Human Rights. This is an important unit where we will look at the following topics: 

• History of Human Rights
• The Universal Declaration of Human Rights
• The Canadian Charter of Human Rights
• Reasons why people lose rights - dictatorships, lack a strong legal system, etc.
• Ways that people demand rights - protest, voting, lobbying, creation of art, music, etc.
• Famous Protest Movements + Art
• Organizations that support human rights (ex. Amnesty International)
• People that are most vulnerable - women, children, Black & Indigenous peoples, migrants, etc.
