War in the Pacific - Human Rights Issues Continued

We are currently examining some of the human rights issues that arose as part of World War II.  In particular, we have been examining Anti-Semitism, and learning more about the Holocaust. 

Today, we are going to extend our study further to examine some of the human rights issues that arose in the Pacific Theatre of war, in Asia.  Specifically, we will examine Japan's invasion of Manchuria and Korea, as well as how the war in the Pacific affected Japanese Canadians here in Canada. 

Keep in mind, we are building research and knowledge about this specific question - 

Essay Question:  Describe some of the ways in which discrimination and human rights atrocities were evident as part of the lead up and conflict of World War II.

TASK FOR TODAY:

This is a disturbing event to read about, but an important one.  Skim the beginning of the website and read carefully the last paragraph.  This is the background on the incident called the Rape of Nanjing. 



PART 3 - JAPANESE INTERNMENT IN CANADA

Review the following information about the Japanese internment camps in Canada.  Take notes on the key details.  Examine BOTH websites
