Welcome to Ms. Sawatsky's Social Studies blog for the 2013-2014 school year.  i will be updating this weekly to include handouts and powerpoints for the course, and also providing web links that will be helpful for you.

Let's start with the Quiz Outline for this week Wednesday.  Topics include:

• Ideologies and political spectrum
• Canadian federal political parties -- where they align on the political spectrum, and details about each party
• Difference and characteristics between democracy and totalitarian/authoritarian governments
• Ways to Influence the Government -- Social Action (ex. voting, civil disobedience, letter-writing, striking, etc.)
• Civil Disobediance case studies - Clayoquot Sound, Apartheid in South Africa, Gandhi, Mandela, MLK Jr.
• Election Process --- 6 steps in election (nomination, enumeration, balloting, tabulation, etc.)
• Details about Ridings/Electoral Districts/Constituencies (How big, how they are determined, etc.

Use the text, class handouts, and powerpoints to help you study.
Quiz/Quest will be out of about 20, and will have a combination of MC, short answer, and matching..
