Canadian Identity & Multiculturalism

Today's class focused on the issues of multiculturalism and immigration and the ways in which they help to define Canadian society. As a country with an official policy of multiculturalism we differ greatly from the "melting pot" of the United States - despite Sarah Palin's attempts to tell us otherwise! Our activities today consisted of a review of Canada's immigration history and discriminatory laws, as well as the acknowledgement of the steps forward we have taken to rectify power imbalances felt by minority groups.

Activities
1. Class Discussion - Arizona Immigration Bill; benefts of melting pot vs. multiculturalism; what does it "mean" to be a minority?
2. Immigration Term Review
3. Homework - Paragraph response on Canada's immigration policy - due next class (min. 10-12 sentences).
